Stun Batons are Versatile Self Defense Weapons
Stun batons give you a little more “reach” than most other stun-type
weapons, which is why they are so popular with both security personnel and civilians alike. While they work in
exactly the same way as any other mini stun gun or even the most powerful stun gun that looks like a real gun, the stun baton is longer in
length. It’s that simple.
Like the very best stun gun available, a stun baton has a shocking tip – literally! All you do with stun batons
is to touch (or prod) your assailant with the baton and pull the trigger. Make sure that you maintain the contact,
and within five seconds you’ll have a jabbering wreck in front of you. Your attacker should by now be on the ground, muscles in spasm and quite literally in shock. This is your
opportunity to take the gap and leave the scene. Run – don’t look back. If you have a personal security alarm, this is also the point at which you will trigger this as well, so
that other people will be alerted to your situation.
But now let’s get back to the best stun gun you can look for.
Because of their shape, most stun batons are rechargeable rather than being powered using
batteries (which stuns guns usually are). But don’t go and buy any type of stun baton or stun gun without first
doing a bit of research. You will find that not all of these self defense weapons are as long as the normal batons that we see police and other security
officers using. You will also discover that there are mini versions of the stun baton – and you mind prefer to
buy one of these. At the same time, while you can find a device of this type that will deliver a devastating
1-million volts, it might be only 10½ inches long. So if your motivation is to get more reach, that isn’t going
to work. But sometimes it is better to be a bit more clandestine, even if it is going to take a lot more courage
on your part!
Think about this factor carefully when you look at the different stun batons that are available. Measure the
difference between 10½ and 15 inches and decide whether you will feel more comfortable with the latter, or whether
you can live with the former. After all you’ll be able to keep a safer distance from your attacker, BUT – the
longer baton will be harder to conceal.
When you compare the different stun devices, also look at the safety devices that they offer. Ideally you will
want something that has a safety button that will prevent accidental discharge as well as a device that will
prevent you being able to continuously trigger and prod your victim (which is what your attacker will become).
Price and warranty will also likely be a factor.
But before you make a final decision, also look at other self defense weapons including the many personal attack alarms and different types of self defense pepper spray that are available. Then decide. More on personal safety training
