What to Look for in a Small Stun Gun
If you want a small stun gun you may be surprised to find you have quite a
lot of choice. While some do in fact look like guns, small stun guns also come in other forms and shapes.
For example, one popular small stun gun design is a similar size and shape to a black magic marker. Yes, that
small! Hold it in your hand and nobody will know the difference. There are various different models that are
capable of producing up to 500,000 volts, and they operate with ordinary AAA alkaline batteries, which is quite
amazing.
Another cleverly disguised stun gun is one that comes in the form of a cell phone. In fact cell phone stun
guns are immensely popular because they really do look like the real thing but they kick a huge punch – as
much as 950,000 volts. Some even have a built-in flashlight that you can use to temporarily blind your
assailant. The fact that these stun guns look like something else doesn’t minimize their effectiveness. For
this reason you should look quite seriously at including one in your personal safety alarm system.
There are several different types of small stun gun that are little enough to fit into a
cigarette packet or a similar sized container. This makes them both convenient to carry and discreet; a would-be
assailant is unlikely to spot one of these. They range from models that deliver anything between 150,000 to 800,000
volts, and most come with a free holster.
Even stun guns designed for military and police use are repackaged in a smaller version for use by civilians.
Look out for slimline models that use just one battery. If they use two batteries they will be bigger.
One of the questions lots of people ask is whether you – the user – can also be shocked by a small stun gun. The
answer is no. The effect of all stun guns and stun batons is limited to the point
that you choose to prod your attacker. You will not be shocked.
Whether big or small, all stun guns are hand-held electrical self defense weapons that utilize high voltage to stop attacker in their tracks. What
happens is that when you prod an assailant with the prongs at the end of the so-called “gun”, the electric shock
immobilizes them. The higher the voltage, the more powerful the shock will be, and therefore the quicker your
attacker should be stopped from doing any damage to YOU. Although voltage for this type of self defense gun is high, amperage is low, and so unless you keep prodding the person
attacking you, and continuously triggering the device, there will be no permanent damage. To prevent people from
doing unnecessary damage (don’t be tempted), many of the best stun gun designs
shut off automatically after about five seconds.
If you aren’t convinced that a stun gun is not going to afford you the best personal protection you need, then perhaps a different type of self defense gun is what
you need. In this case have a look at the different pepper spray gun devices that are available. These are pretty hot! More on personal safety training
